It will be a great day with fantastic views and cold refreshments, guest speakers and what better excuse do you have to bring or catch up with old rugby league mates from days gone by… Remember this is open to all and anybody that loves our game here in WA. Partners and wives welcome…

Vale Colin Constantine

We have sadly received news of the passing of WARL Past Player Colin Constantine.

Colin Constantine Hall of Fame

Colin (Cono) Constantine was a legend of the Applecross Rugby League club through the 60’s & 70’s, and was part of the 1964 side that captured Applecross’ 1st ever A grade Premiership and was part of that golden era for Applecross in the 60’s. He captain/coached the club, winning the clubs Most Outstanding player award (Frank Baguley medal) three times,  was a WA State player on numerous tours, and a WARL Hall of Famer in 1996.

For those who would like to pay their respects. Colin’s funeral service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church, Northbridge at 1.45pm Friday 13th January (this Friday) followed by a burial service at Fremantle Cemetery at 3.45pm.

Our thoughts and wishes are with his Family at this time.

Congratulations Rod Fielding – 2016 Hall of Fame Inductee

Congratulations to Rod Fielding on being inducted into the NRLWA Hall of Fame at last Saturday’s WARL Past Players and Supporters re-union day.

Rod is a popular and worthy recipient with contributions to Western Australian Rugby League spanning over many years. Rod’s playing history in WA started with the Mosman Cottesloe Rugby League club.  He played WA State, Coached numerous sides and Refereed 1st grade at both Domestic and State level for over 11 years.

He became a Life member of the WARL Referees Association in 1998, a WARL Life Member in 2004 as well as a Life Member of his beloved Rockingham Rugby League Club.

It was an emotional Rod that accepted his award from WARL Past Players co-founder Len Castle. Accompanied by his wife, Kathy and son Michael, Rod shed a tear as he expressed how much his inclusion in the Hall of Fame meant to him. He also carried a small memento from his mum who had passed away, so that she could be there with him.

2016 WARL Past Players and Supporters Re-union day

Last Saturday saw the WARL Past Players host their annual re-union day at the South Perth Rugby League clubrooms and what a day it was!!

More than a 150 past players and supporters celebrated the Most Outstanding Players in the history of WA Rugby League by honoring those present on the day with commemorative medals and appreciation for their achievements. It was an amazing turnout with 20 of the 61 historical recipients attending.

Over history the Western Australia Rugby League’s Most Outstanding Player award has had three name changes, these were..

1950-1989  – Brice Trophy. Named after Max Brice, one of the founding fathers of Rugby League in WA

1990-1991 – Rothman’s Shield – Naming rights were given to the international cigarette company who were then major sponsor of the WARL. This ceased when cigarette advertising was banned.

1992-Present – Ken Allen Medal– Named after Ken Allen, another founding father of Rugby League in WA and the founder of the Fremantle Rugby League Club. After Ken’s passing, the award is now presented by Ken’s son Kevin Allen.

The commemorative medals were presented by NRLWA General Manager, John Sackson.
