Our deepest sympathy goes to Peter and Glenys Marshall and family on the passing of their son Darren. Darren played for the North Beach Rugby League club and was taken way too early. The thoughts of all past players are with them at this time
Sorry for the delay in posting these photos. a few technical issues have been holding everything back! we are back up and running now…
The Past Players & Supporters function was held at East Fremantle Yacht club with the sun shining and the bar was open!!
A great turn out came to listen to our guest speaker, Warren Smiles who held the crowds attention with some amazing stories about his life playing and the working in rugby league around the world. His insight into the Newcastle Knights through good and the n turbulent times was captivating and James “Sully” Sullivan did an awesome job interviewing Warren and really got down to some interesting topics.
Brian McAuliffe (Applecross) was inducted into the NRLWA Hall of Fame for over 5 decades of dedication to our sport at both Club and State levels. well done Brian.
Thank you for all those that attended and we would love to hear your feed back about the function and venue. Thank you also to those that traveled to attend including Graham Lynch (Canning) who fly in from QLD especially for the event.
A SPECIAL thank you to Noel and Jenny Williams who have put in a massive effort to these functions for many years. They have decided that they will be spending more time travelling and with family, so this will be the last function as committee members. Thank you to both of you for your contributions over the years!
Some photos from the day
Congratulations to Brian McAuliffe for being inducted into the NRLWA Hall of Fame at the WARL Past Players & Supporters Re-union Day
Brian has been involved with Rugby League all his life and was originally with the Mt Pleasant Rugby League Club (for those that remember this club) where he was a star junior footballer, captaining both club, touring and WA State sides. Brian went on to be a major part of the Applecross RLC once Mt Pleasant and Applecross combined in 1961 and was a key player in Applecross’ run of 11 straight grand final appearances between 1962 – 1972.
Brian has been a club player, coach and committee member for many years, even starting the Melville Junior RLC as an feeder club for Applecross through his association as a teacher at Melville Primary School. Brian also coached State junior sides for many years.
Brian’s contribution to Rugby League in WA for over 5 decades make him a very worthy and popular inductee into the prestigious NRLWA Hall of Fame.
Don’t forget to come down to East Fremantle Yacht Club for the WARL Past Players and Supporters Re-union TOMORROW from 12.30 pm.
See who will be inducted in to the NRLWA “Hall of Fame” and join WA Rugby League legends such as Brian Wedgewood, Colin Constantine, Alec Lockley and Isaac Thomas to name just a few..
RLWC Qtr Finals LIVE on the Big Screen, Guest Speakers, Raffles, Finger Food and Cold drinks will set the scene of catching up with old mates and rivals with the Swan River as a magnificent back drop..
$10 Entry, Cash Bar available.
Come on down for a great day of everything WA Rugby League…..
Some more sad news with the passing of Bob Quinlan Snr. from the South Perth Rugby League Club overnight….
Bob was a 5x South Perth Rugby League Club Premier Player, coached South Perth First Grade, and won Top Try Scorer in WA on several occasions.
Bob played against the great French teams that won the World Cup in 1951 & 1955 and was Vice Captain aged 20 in 1951 in which he scored two tries against them at the Claremont Showgrounds.
Bob was inducted into the NRLWA Hall of Fame in 1999 and was a great supporter of the South Perth club and Rugby League in WA.
Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and thank you to his Granddaughter, Lee Callaway for sending in these photos at this difficult time.
